La \u201cSala di Fetonte\u201d \u00e8 cos\u00ec chiamata per la rappresentazione sulla volta del mito di Fetonte.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fetonte si vantava di essere figlio del Sole, ma i suoi amici lo prendevano in giro perch\u00e9 non gli credevano. Incoraggiato dalla madre, che era una ninfa, un giorno si presenta al Dio Sole – e gli chiede se \u00e8 davvero suo padre. Questi conferma la paternit\u00e0 e gli concede di esaudire un desiderio.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fetonte gli chiede di poter guidare il carro del Sole per un giorno, cos\u00ec da dimostrare a tutti le sue vere origini; il padre cerca di dissuaderlo, illustrandogli le pericolose difficolt\u00e0 cui sarebbe andato incontro, ma alla fine \u00e8 costretto a consentire al desiderio del figlio, e il giovane sale sul carro solare del padre.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Il padre lo implora di non andare n\u00e9 troppo in alto n\u00e9 troppo in basso, mantenere l\u2019equilibrio nel centro, ma Fetonte \u00e8 troppo emozionato e ansioso di compiere la sua corsa sul carro del Sole e ascolta distratto i suoi consigli. Quando i cavalli, che si accorgono del peso diverso della nuova guida, si slanciano in una corsa precipitosa e disordinata. Il figlio del Sole \u00e8 terrorizzato. Nella folle corsa citt\u00e0, monti e regioni, anche quelle solitamente immerse nel gelo, sono sconvolte, bruciate, arse; agli Etiopi si abbruna la pelle, la Libia diventa deserto; storici fiumi vanno in fiamme o scompaiono, come accade alle sorgenti del Nilo.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Per salvare l\u2019Universo dalla rovina, il Dio del Sole colpisce il carro con un fulmine; il giovane precipita sulla terra, direttamente nelle acque del fiume Eridano, l\u2019attuale fiume Po e annega.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Le Eliadi, figlie del Sole e sorelle di Fetonte, prendono a piangere inconsolabili in riva al fiume; cos\u00ec il Padre impietosito le trasforma nei pioppi, che si possono vedere ancora oggi lungo le rive del Po.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fetonte, con la sua superbia e arroganza, ha dimostrato che spingersi oltre i propri limiti ha delle conseguenze gravi per la nostra stessa vita.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Le immagini dipinte ammoniscono il marchese Diomede, nella sua camera da letto, a non intraprendere imprese al di sopra delle sue possibilit\u00e0 e ad attenersi ai ritmi naturali della vita.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nella Sala sono rappresentate ai lati le figure dell\u2019Alba, del Mezzogiorno, del Tramonto e della Notte, mentre negli ovali agli angoli, figurano la Primavera, l\u2019Estate, l\u2019Autunno e l\u2019Inverno<\/strong><\/p>\n

La stampa tridimensionale rappresenta Giove che colpisce il carro guidato da Fetonte.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Hall Phaeton<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The ‘Hall of Phaeton’ is so called because of the representation on the vault of the myth of Phaeton.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Phaeton boasted that he was the son of the Sun, but his friends mocked him because they did not believe him. Encouraged by his mother, who was a nymph, he one day presented himself to the Sun God – and asked him if he was really his father. The latter confirms paternity and grants him a wish.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Phaeton asks him if he can drive the Sun chariot for a day, so that he can prove to everyone his true origins; his father tries to dissuade him, telling him of the dangerous difficulties he would face, but in the end he is forced to grant his son’s wish, and the young man climbs into his father’s sun chariot.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The father implores him not to go too high or too low, to keep his balance in the centre, but Phaeton is too excited and anxious to make his ride in the Sun Chariot and distractedly listens to his advice. When the horses realise the different weight of their new guide, they sprint off in a hasty and disorderly race. The son of the Sun is terrified. In the mad rush cities, mountains and regions, even those usually bathed in frost, are shattered, burnt, scorched; the Ethiopians’ skin is scorched, Libya becomes desert; historic rivers burst into flames or disappear, as happens at the source of the Nile.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To save the Universe from ruin, the Sun God strikes the chariot with a thunderbolt; the young man plummets to earth, straight into the waters of the Eridanus River, today’s Po River, and drowns.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Eliads, daughters of the Sun and sisters of Phaeton, weep inconsolably by the river; so the pitying Father transforms them into the poplars, which can still be seen today along the banks of the Po.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Phaeton, with his haughtiness and arrogance, demonstrated that pushing one’s limits has serious consequences for one’s own life.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The painted images admonish Marquis Diomedes, in his bedroom, not to undertake ventures beyond his means and to stick to the natural rhythms of life.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the room, the figures of Dawn, Midday, Sunset and Night are depicted on the sides, while in the ovals in the corners, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter are represented.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The three-dimensional print represents Jupiter striking the chariot driven by Phaeton.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
